Jimmy LaRiche just graduated from Pope John Paul II High School in May, won his second Pro Tour contest of 2008 in June, and is the current overall leader in Junior Men’s – so what more could be going for this young phenom from Boca Raton, FL you ask? Try $20,000 check in his pocket! Jimmy LaRiche is the 2008 BroStock champion! Jimmy has been killing it in Junior Men’s so he got the invite to participate in BroStock - a double up event with a 20K purse at Lake Powell. In Jimmy’s opening round were Shane Bonifay, Shawn Watson, Rusty Malinoski, and himself. It was obviously a super difficult round, and with riders getting only a few attempts at each double up, it made the each double up attempt that much more important. Jimmy chose the Heel 9 as his weapon of choice for this double up battle. Each round he was able to landed his heel 9 while going absolutely huge! The ultra lightweight Hyperlite Sub 6 just kept booting him up into the sky while giving him all the control he needed. The boys at Alliance kept scoring him well and putting him into the next heat. After the conclusion of the opening round, Rusty and Jimmy both moved into the following round. From there, they both won their respected heats. From there, Jimmy had to go head to head with Rusty, and again, he landed his heel 9, edged out Rusty, and moving on into the finals. In the finals were Henshaw, Gonzalez, JD, Fooshee, and Jimmy. Everyone went out to throw down their best in hopes of claiming the $20,000 first place prize. Jimmy did what he had done all day – stick a huge heel 9 and put the pressure on the rest of the field to match or exceed the bar which Jimmy had set, but no one could quite do it. Jimmy was crowned the 2008 BroStock champion…not bad for a guy who still rides in junior men’s! Asked what he is going to do with the 20K, Jimmy said, “I’m going to put it away. I want to buy a house”. Watch for Jimmy to keep killing it this year in Junior Men’s and keep checking him out in the mags! |
