CHRIS KALLAS

It is safe to say that Chris Kallas is the best wakeskater to ever come out of Australia. Chris has been coming to the US for the past two summers and continues to show up with new and stylish tricks every year. He was voted Rookie of the Year by Alliance Wakeskate in 2009 and for good reason. Chris makes riding a wakeskate look easy and super fun no matter what he is riding behind. Whether it's riding behind his "tinny" in Oz or behind the ski or boat at the Catalyst house in Florida you can bet Kallas will be ripping. For 2010, Chris will be riding Catalyst's new wood concave board, The Urso, a board that he helped design from the start. With a new shape and going on his third endless summer, 2010 is sure to be his best year yet.

Q & A

1. Do you remember when Wakeskating was just a hobby and what clicked in you to make it into a career?

CK: Wakeskating is still just my hobby, I have always done it for fun and I still get bored with it. It’s hard to think about it being my career. It doesn’t feel like an actual career. All I do is have fun with friends everyday.

2. What’s your first memory of getting on the Hyperlite A-Team?

CK I remember riding with Bandon in 08 and he was like man we need to get you on a Hyperlite board. then one Australian summer Grubb was down with the Billabong crew, he came out riding with me and told me Hyperlite would look after me… it started from there.

3. With all of your travels, give us a funny story for the road and a scary one?

CK: Umm, one time in Texas these two girls stripped down and rapped Grubb while he was asleep. They dressed him up in there gear and he didn’t even know... I’m not sure if he even knows now? Then this other time on the St. Johns River it was me, Jimmy and BT we were all on the ski late night looking for gators. BT took us up into this massive gator nest. I was freaking out then Jimmy started rocking the ski from side to side and I almost slipped off the ski into the water…it was crazy.

4. Rewritten has been out for a while now, any thoughts on the project now or comments you’ve heard from those who’ve seen it?

CK: Yeah, anyone that talks about Rewritten always have something good to say… I was stoked to get in some filming with the boys before the film came out. Thanks to Hyperlite and everyone that helped make it happen…it turned out sick!
